Original Article : Effect of gymnastics with isometric exercise for body growth on serum concentration of GH and IGF - 1 in male university students
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to develop the effective exercise program for body growth by comparing secreting conditions of IGF-1 (insulin-like growth factor 1) with those of GH (growth hormone) before and after exercise when gymnastics with isometric exercise for body growth which is designed for the body growth and common stretching are practiced among the system of increasing CH and IGF-1 naturally through exercise. The subjects of this study were 14 healthy male university students and they were kept off excessive exercise, drugs and the food intake before 12 hours of the test. The followings are the results from drawing blood by the same ways of before 5 min. of starting exercise, during 20 min. of exercise, immediately after 40 min. of exercise and the each recovering stage of 30 min., 60 min. and 90 min. after the above 14 students were divided into two groups of 7 gymnastics students for body growth and 7 common stretching students. The group of gymnastics with isometric exercise for body growth was significantly increased (p<.05) as compared with the group of common stretching when the two groups were compared with for the GH concentration change and the group of gymnastics with isometric exercise for body growth was significantly increased (p<.001) but the group of common stretching when the comparison was made between before and after exercise. At the same time, there isn`t any significant difference between the two groups for the IGF-1 concentration change. And the group of gymnastics with isometric exercise for body growth showed the tendency of gradual increase but the group of common stretching showed the tendency of gradual decrease when the comparison was made between before and after exercise. Gymnastics with isometric exercise for body growth designed for body growth is considered to secret more GH and IGF-1 than common stretching from the results of this study. According to the results of this study gymnastics for body growth is advisable to be recommended as more effective exercise than common stretching for the growing-ups, and for the further more effective exercises should be developed for the growing-ups to get rid of the height complexes and worries they can have.
