Abstract
Proper nutrient intakes focus one`s attention on the promotion of physical fitness. This study was conducted to investigate the correlations between nutrient intakes and physical fitness in middle school students. Health-related questionnaire. dietary intakes, food frequency questionnaire and physical fitness were studied. There were not significant difference health-related questionnaire, food frequency questionnaire and physical fitness by sex, but nutrition intakes of male students were poorer than those of female students. Energy, vitamin B, and Ca intakes of male students were deficient (below 75% Korean RDA) but only Ca intake of female students was deficient. Speed, abdominal muscular endurance, flexibility of male middle school students were more excellent than those of average Seoul male middle school students and cardiorespiratory endurance of female middle students was more excellent than that of average Seoul female middle school students. Significantly positive correlation was founded between total score of food frequency and power (standing long jump) of male students (r = 0.17). And, significantly positive correlations were founded between sum of physical fitness and fish, milk of female students (r = 0.20, r = 0.19). Also significantly negative correlation was founded between fruits and cardiorespiratory endurance(long distance race) of female students (r = -0.18). Therefore, this study suggests that proper nutrition supply promote physical fitness in middle school students.
